The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an order for an international warrant for Miodrag Mitrašinović, since he was not found at the address after the first-instance verdict was handed over for war crimes, the court confirmed for "Avaz".
Mitrašinović, who did not appear at the sentencing on October 21st, was sentenced to 13 years under first-instance verdict, together with six other former members of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), who were also sentenced to the same prison terms, i.e. a total of 91 years in prison for participating in the kidnapping of 20 civilians from a train in Štrpci at the end of February 1993, who were killed in the area of Višegrad.
Referring to the chronology of this case, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina reminds that before the verdict was pronounced in the case mentioned above, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted to the Court a proposal to determine the measure of detention for the accused in the "Štrpci case", in which it was stated that all were arrested except Miodrag Mitrašinović, who, according to the state prosecutor's office, was in the hospital in Foča, where he was admitted for a medical procedure.
This information was confirmed by the defense counsel of the accused Mitrašinović, lawyer Miloš Perić, who informed the Court that his client was in the hospital in Foča, where he underwent an operation during the day, and that he was not mobile and that he does not know how long he would be kept in hospital.
- Immediately after the sentencing and determination of the custody measure, the Court issued an order to the Institute for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Custody and Other Measures of BiH to ensure the implementation of the custody measure against the accused Miodrag Mitrašinović in the Foča University Hospital, where, according to the information provided to the Court at the time, he was being treated, and after the treatment was completed, he would be transferred to Vojkovići penitentiary in order to continue serving the detention measure - explained the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As they further state, after that, the Management of the Vojkovići penitentiary informed the Court that the accused Mitrašinović was not in the University Hospital in Foča, given that, as confirmed by the Department of Surgery, he was discharged from further treatment on the same day.
After receiving that information, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an order to issue an international warrant in relation to the accused Miodrag Mitrašinović.
Ex-soldiers Mitrašinović, Obrad and Novak Poluga, Petko Inđić, Radojica Ristić, Dragan Šekarić and Oliver Krsmanović have been sentenced to 13 years each in a first-instance verdict for participating in the murder of 20 non-Serb civilians who were seized from a train that was traveling from Belgrade to Bar in Montenegro.
The victims were shot dead in the village of Musići and their bodies were then thrown into the Drina River.
The first-instance verdict convicting the seven men is subject to an appeal.
