The European People's Party (EPP) announced yesterday that it strongly supports the candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The European People's Party strongly supports the granting of candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina with the understanding that the Brussels Political Agreement is being respected, including the necessary adoption of an amendment to the Election Law, which is urgently needed to enable the establishment of functioning institutions after the forthcoming elections, which would improve the state of the country in 14 key priorities.

The confrontation of the largest political group in the European Parliament comes before the decision of the European Council on the candidate status for Ukraine and Moldova.

The European Parliament also adopted a resolution mentioning the Western Balkans region.

In order to maintain the credibility of the EU enlargement process and enable its transformative powers, a long-standing commitment to the Western Balkans must be maintained and their parallel paths must continue unaffected with more momentum based on merit, political alignment, solidarity in international affairs and agreed commitments, it is stated in the resolution of the European Parliament adopted after today's session.
