The remains of eighteen unidentified persons, exhumed and found at several locations in the Brčko District, were buried at the site of the Ivici city cemetery in Brčko on Saturday.

The act burial of the victims from the last war, most likely Bosniak civilians, was organized by the Association of Families of Missing, Forcibly Abducted and Killed Bosniaks from Brčko, in cooperation with the Tuzla Commemorative Center, the Brčko Prosecutor's Office said.

The burial of the victims, whose identification has been intensively investigated for many years, was preceded by many years of activities by the Prosecutor's Office and the Police of the Brčko District of B&H.

Although all necessary activities were taken in that direction, in cooperation with the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the identity of the victims could not be established. Among other reasons, the established DNA profiles of the buried victims did not match the profiles taken from families looking for missing relatives.

In addition, the Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with the Institute and other competent bodies and institutions, will continue to undertake all necessary activities in order to enable identification even after the burial of the victims. According to the Prosecutor's Office, persons searching for missing family members, who have not done so before, can provide key assistance in this procedure by giving blood samples.

On this occasion, the Prosecution calls on citizens who have information about war crimes in this area and their perpetrators to report and testify about them, and thus make a key contribution to the completion of this important process for the entire society.
