The OHR, the US Embassy in B&H and the OSCE Mission to B&H commented for "Avaz" on the meeting between the President of the Court of B&H Ranko Debevec and the Director of the Intelligence and Security Agency ISA, Osman Mehmedagić.
As the media reported last week, the two met secretly on December 14th last year, exactly on the same day when the Prosecutor's Office of B&H filed the second indictment against Mehmedagić in the "Security Check" affair, which was officially rejected today.
The question is what the President of the Court of B&H did with the accused Mehmedagić, which is documented by published photographs.
We were told by the OHR:
- Holders of public office have an obligation to preserve the integrity of the institutions they represent, which includes avoiding behavior that may compromise the institutions or have such a perception in public. In accordance with the domestic legislation, the competent domestic institutions acted and initiated disciplinary proceedings - they say from the OHR for "Avaz".
The OSCE Mission has informed us that the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina does not comment on ongoing cases before the competent authorities.
- For all further details in this particular case, we kindly refer you to the relevant B&H institutions. However, it should be emphasized that the integrity, independence and accountability of judicial office holders are of the utmost importance and must be respected to ensure that citizens have faith in a fair, reliable judicial system.
